Fact 1: There are more than 5.8 million Automotive Batteries that finish their life each year.
Fact 2: There are over 300 million Handheld Batteries under 1kg consumed each year.
Batteries have become an important part of our life. We use them in a number of items around our homes and also in our vehicles, boats, motorhomes and machinery. Like all items manufactured, they have a limited life and it is at the end of their life that we need to make the most important decision, and that is to recycle them correctly and responsibly.
Batteries contain materials such as lead, lithium, cadmium, nickel, zinc and mercury. As per the Hazardous Waste Act 1989, no battery should be disposed of with general household waste. Apart from the regulations it is just sheer common sense to recycle these products.
These materials can be recycled for an infinite number of times and this uses less energy than refining primary ore and removes these harmful materials from the environment.
